Bloomin' Marvellous
…I have finally completed my first official painting of 2012 – all thanks to an exhibition deadline. One of my aims for this year was to participate in the second #twitterartexhibit following the contribution I made to the first one. The resulting painting is ‘Bloom-in-corner’:

I do not usually paint on such a small scale (this painting is only 16cm x 12cm) so it was quite challenging to work in such a contained way. Having messed around with general ideas for so long to develop the concept for a new body of work, this has very much felt like getting back to practical basics.
I always end up ‘going-into-battle’ with paintings as they develop – there is always a stage where I feel as though I am going to give-up and abandon a painting as a bad experience – and this was certainly the case with this one. However, with perseverance and patience, there is a certain satisfaction to eventually being able to bring paintings to some kind of conclusion.
There are always things I would like to change in my paintings; things I would do differently if I were to do them again. This is all part of the process for me though and the thing that drives me to paint – learning, adapting and evolving.
I should hopefully be able to share more new paintings again soon as the research I have been carrying-out begins to come to visual fruition. I like to try and challenge myself and hopefully this is what my new body of work will do – take me out of my comfort zone.
