Merry Christmas to all! As the festive period gets into the full swing, and we hurtle toward the New Year, I thought that it would be an ideal opportunity to look back at the last 12 months of my painting escapades.
It has been a surprisingly productive year for me as an artist. I have built up a momentum that I am eager to carry on into 2010.
At the start of the year I was busy preparing for my first solo exhibition 'Displace' which opened in Gallery 02 at The Richard Attenborough Centre on Wednesday 7 January 2009.
It was exciting to finally have my own exhibition and I received some really positive feedback. Having a solo show to work toward really focussed my painting practice and was a huge motivator to be creative and productive (although there were several occasions of panic when I feared I would not get the work completed in time!). It was great to work on a full cohesive body of work which had a central conceptual theme as this was something that I hadn't really had the opportunity to do since my degree show.
I also received my first ever individual art publicity for the show in the form of listings in various publications. It was good to feel that my work was being promoted within the local community, and also exciting to see my name in print! Publications where I appeared included:
The Richard Attenborough Centre's arts events guide (also featuring were upcoming comedienne Sarah Millican and poet Wendy Cope):
The Leicester Mercury (my exhibition was listed in here nearly every day for it's month long run):
Leicestershire and Rutland life (the OK! magazine for the region!!):
Hope that everyone has a fantastic Christmas - eat, drink, unwrap presents, and be merry! Ho ho ho...
