Unusual painting habit(?)
As I have to fit my painting around my full time 'day job' I have to plan my time accordingly. The most annoying habit I have is that I tend to get into my painting grove late at night and into the early hours of the morning. It is great to have these times of inspired productivity but it does restrict my painting progress (working this late on a 'work night' is problematic/impossible as I need more than 4/5 hours sleep a night!).
Last night I was up until about 3.30 am and feel that I have finally turned a corner with current painting 'Clasp' The painting evolved between 11.00 pm and 3.00 am from this:
I think that I actually made more progress in those 4 hours than I had in the previous 24!
I am not sure what it is about working late into the night that is so conducive to my artistic practice? I would be interested to know if others have a similar habit? I think that it is down to the fact that there are less distractions at this time of night (nothing on TV, too late to be cleaning, needing to be quiet because of neighbours etc), and that I obviously lack self-discipline during the day and am easily distracted!
Still a fair amount to be done on 'Clasp' before I finish so must get cracking. The exhibition submission deadline is tomorrow; I will post the three paintings for comments to see if a prediction can be made of which, if any, of the paintings the panel will select for the exhibition. Back to the paintbrush and palette for the final time before the deadline...
